How do you recognise a reliable provider?

Business ID, insurance, a clear quote and communication: five things that show a provider can be trusted before you agree on the job.

Trust is built from small things. Nobody can check everything, but five questions are enough in most cases.

1. Does the provider have a business ID?

A company that sells a service has a business ID (Y-tunnus). You can check the company's basic details in the Business Information System (ytj.fi). On Palvelunyt.fi the provider applies with a business ID and an administrator reviews the application, but still ask for more when needed.

2. Is it a real company that issues an invoice?

You should get an invoice for the work showing the company name, business ID and VAT if the company is liable for VAT. If the provider suggests payment without an invoice, take note. More on this in the text "Quote without an invoice".

3. Are insurance and permits in order?

Ask whether the company has liability insurance. Some jobs also need a permit or qualification. Electrical work may only be done by authorised electrical professionals, and for work in wet rooms it is worth asking about qualifications in the trade. Ask for a certificate if needed.

4. Is the quote clear?

A reliable provider says what the price includes and what it does not, what is a fixed price and what is an estimate, and when the work starts. A vague "about, and it depends" with no reasons is a cause for caution.

5. Does the provider answer quickly and politely?

How the provider answers before the deal often says something about how they act afterwards. Notice whether they answer your questions directly and are ready to put the agreement in writing.

What else you can do

  • Read other customers' reviews when there are any.
  • Ask for photos of earlier jobs.
  • Agree the content and price in writing.
  • Do not pay large sums in advance.

What Palvelunyt.fi does

Every provider applies with a business ID, and an administrator approves the application before the provider sees any requests. The customer sees the provider's business name and the quote, and after the job the customer can leave a review. This does not replace your own judgement, but it makes the choice easier.
