The household tax credit from the provider's point of view

If a customer wants the household tax credit, the provider must be in the prepayment register and the invoice done correctly. An overview and links to the Tax Administration's guidance.

Many consumers think about the household tax credit when they order cleaning, renovation or yard work. If you offer such services, it pays to know the basics. This text is an overview, not tax advice. Current guidance: vero.fi.

What is the prepayment register?

A customer can usually get the household tax credit only if the person doing the work is in the prepayment register or otherwise meets the Tax Administration's conditions. If you offer work that qualifies for the credit, check the conditions and the registration requirements with the Tax Administration.

Why it matters

  • Many customers ask about it before ordering.
  • It is one reason a consumer chooses a professional instead of doing the job themselves.
  • A clear answer builds trust.

What goes on the invoice

The invoice helps the customer claim the credit when the shares of labour and supplies are separated. Check in the Tax Administration's guidance what the invoice must contain. Ask a bookkeeper to review your invoice template.

What you tell the customer

  • Is your business in the prepayment register?
  • Which part of the price is labour and which materials?
  • How is the invoice paid?

Do not, however, promise how much credit the customer will get. It depends on the customer's own situation, and the conditions change.

Palvelunyt.fi does not handle payments and does not give tax advice. You can mention in the quote whether your service may qualify for the household tax credit. Invoicing and taxation are a matter between you and the customer.
