Reviews build trust: how to ask for them the right way

A good review is a business owner's most effective marketing. When and how to ask for one politely, and how to respond to critical feedback.

A customer who does not know you trusts the experiences of others. That is why reviews are one of the strongest reasons a new customer chooses you.

1. Do the job well

The best way to get a good review is to do the job well and keep your promises. The rest is small things on top of that.

2. Ask at the right time

The best moment is straight after the job, when the customer is satisfied and remembers things precisely. On Palvelunyt.fi the customer can leave a review once they have marked the job as done.

3. Ask politely

Example:

Thank you for the pleasant cooperation! If you were happy, a review would help me a lot, since I am still a new business owner. It only takes a minute.

Do not push, and do not offer a reward or a discount for a good review. It would distort the reviews and is not fair to others.

4. Always say thank you

When a review comes in, say thank you both in the message and in person. A good customer relationship often continues as a repeat order.

5. Take criticism calmly

A negative review stings, but it also tells you what could be improved. Read it in peace and do not answer straight away. If the criticism is justified, acknowledge it and say how you will put things right. If it is unfair, reply factually and briefly.

6. Do not write reviews yourself

Do not write reviews for yourself or ask friends to write made-up ones. It is misleading marketing and can lead to consequences.

7. Use reviews to learn

Look for recurring themes in the reviews: what is praised, what is repeated as criticism. They tell you what is worth keeping and what to change.
